degree show

The first ever exhibition that I did was for my degree show at Chelsea College of art. The show consisted of drawings created in black ink on white paper and mounted on mdf board. They were based on botanical and medical illustrations of the 18th century, which I morphed into more surreal forms.

mother: this drawing was based on a ginger plant that I'd sketched at Kew Gardens. I added embellishments to it to echo the human body.

lace: this drawing was based on a type of fungi that looks like lace.

flower paintings

I have always been interested in botanical illustration. By learning about the techniques of this subject, my watercolour painting skills have improved considerably and I've started to paint in acrylics (see below).

children's illustration

I have recently started to create illustrations for children. These I have successfully sold as greetings cards and as original artworks.

gnome village snailgnome racecourse angelcakes caught napping

gnome village: this drawing was created with coloured pencils and has two doors that open to reveal the characters within. I have sold lots of these as a greetings card.

snailgnome racecourse: I've sold lots of prints of this picture. It features a mole watching a race with gnome jockeys on snails. It was drawn with coloured pencils.

angelcakes: I drew this character with coloured pencils, but I've also painted her in watercolour too.

caught napping: This was the first time I drew this character and he has been reappearing in my children's illustrations ever since.
