Looks as if the artist had created such works before. I suppose he should have consulted a structural engineer or equivalent to find out if the structure was stable. It must be awful for him though and for those who were affected.

Haggis is delicious for those of you who have never tried it. No worse than eating a sausage I should think.

As for the installation piece you mention, I am not familiar with what happened here, but think that the artist should consider safety issues when constructing a piece. Or at least warn people before they go to see it. I'm sure that freak accidents happen no matter what you do sometimes, but safety should be a primary concern if a work is in the public domain. I once had an exhibition where someone knocked their head on a painting. Not something I was expecting to happen, but it made me think about the positioning and securing of paintings for future exhibitions.

Diane,

A Robbie Burns Night sounds romantic and cosy even if the language of his poetry may be incomprehensible to a fair few people! Hope you had a good birthday celebrations, good poetry reading, more than a few whiskies and I personally will skip the haggis being not so fond of offal and innards! I'll stick with dark chocolate since it's Valentine's soon!

By the way, on an entirely different subject, what do you think of the manslaughter charge for the artist whose inflatable sculpture killed two people in a freak accident. What is your thinking about installation art, artistic creation versus safety of the public?

Cheers,

Susan S. Cheung.
